AIMS South Africa

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) South Africa required a complete website rebuild that would showcase their world-class mathematical education programs, research initiatives, and their mission to advance mathematical sciences across Africa. As a pan-African network of centres of excellence, they needed a platform that could effectively communicate their impact and attract talented students from across the continent.

AIMS needed a website that could be easily maintained by non-technical staff while supporting complex content structures including course listings, faculty profiles, research publications, news articles, and event calendars. The site needed to be fast, accessible, and work well across varying internet connection speeds common across Africa.

We developed a custom modular component framework built on Hugo, a blazing-fast static site generator. This approach allowed us to create reusable, flexible components that content editors can mix and match to build pages without developer intervention. The static site architecture ensures lightning-fast load times and excellent performance even on slower connections. We implemented a clean design system that reflects AIMS' prestigious academic standing while remaining approachable and welcoming to prospective students.
